Weekly Meditation
There is an old joke that says if you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans. Well, God must have been laughing at me last week. Early last week I read the lessons and decided to base the sermon on John 3:16 – this one verse contains the heart of the Good News of Jesus Christ. The choir’s anthem also fit in with this theme so everything was set. Then during the Wednesday Bible Study, it became apparent that God had other ideas. God spoke very clearly through the class members and said the message needed to come from Genesis and focus on our need to follow God all the way to Canaan (and not stop halfway in Haran).
I believe it is important to listen when God calls us to go in a new direction. God has a purpose and plan for us that we cannot always see. So, the next time God changes your plans give thanks to God – I know it is for the better.

Help Wanted: VBS Director
For the past several years Andrew Greenwood has directed our
Vacation Bible School.
This year, Andrew is not available and we need a new director.
We have already set the dates: August 6-12, 2011
The qualifications are a love of children and good organizational skills!
Please see Pastor Stephen to volunteer or for more information.
Help Wanted: National Night Out Coordinator
National Night Out is a nationwide program to help people connect with their neighbors. It happens on the first Tuesday in August (August 2nd, 2011) and features locally planned venues designed to get people out of their homes and interacting with their neighbors. We had a very successful event in 2009, but unfortunately the neighborhood group who sponsored it decided not to participate in 2010. So, we would like to step up and fill the void. But, to do so requires a coordinator. The coordinator will decide what we want to offer and get volunteers to make it happen. Please see Pastor Stephen for more information or to volunteer.
“But God proves his love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8)
Blessings,
Pastor Stephen
