Weekly Meditation
Last Saturday I attended the Annapolis Southern Region Leadership Day in Waldorf. The plenary speaker was Rev. Jon Moore, a pastor from the New Mexico Annual Conference. Rev. Moore’s topic was church growth, but be began by calling us to stop talking about the church as a thing and start talking about her as a person. Too often we refer to the church as an “it” and not as a “she” or “he.” (In Revelation, the church is pictured as the bride of Christ so the church is usually referred to as “she.”) Rev. Moore’s point is that we may like an “it;” but we can fall in love with a person.
As we begin our Lenten Journey, I invite you to consider what it means to love the church as you love another person. I am interested in hearing how that love can be harnessed to enrich and empower Providence-Fort Washington as we seek to reach out to love our neighbor.

Help Wanted: VBS Director
For the past several years Andrew Greenwood has directed our
Vacation Bible School.
This year, Andrew is not available and we need a new director.
We have already set the dates: August 6-12, 2011
The qualifications are a love of children and good organizational skills!
Please see Pastor Stephen to volunteer or for more information.
Help Wanted: National Night Out Coordinator
National Night Out is a nationwide program to help people connect with their neighbors. It happens on the first Tuesday in August (August 2nd, 2011) and features locally planned venues designed to get people out of their homes and interacting with their neighbors. We had a very successful event in 2009, but unfortunately the neighborhood group who sponsored it decided not to participate in 2010. So, we would like to step up and fill the void. But, to do so requires a coordinator. The coordinator will decide what we want to offer and get volunteers to make it happen. Please see Pastor Stephen for more information or to volunteer.
“Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, O righteous,
and shout for joy, all you upright in heart.” (Psalm 32:11)
Blessings,
Pastor Stephen
