Weekly Meditation
The Nike slogan “Just do it” could be used to describe Abraham in this week’s Old Testament Lesson (Genesis 12:1-4a). Without any preamble, God calls Abram (later God will change his name to Abraham) and tells him to leave his homeland and go “to the land that I will show you.” The amazing thing about the story is what happens next. Abraham “went as the Lord had told him.” I wonder how many people before Abraham had heard God’s call but were unwilling to “just do it.” Today, God continues to call us to go and be a blessing. Are we willing to listen to God, abandon our agenda and “just do it?”

Help Wanted: VBS Director
For the past several years Andrew Greenwood has directed our
Vacation Bible School.
This year, Andrew is not available and we need a new director.
We have already set the dates: August 6-12, 2011
The qualifications are a love of children and good organizational skills!
Please see Pastor Stephen to volunteer or for more information.
Help Wanted: National Night Out Coordinator
National Night Out is a nationwide program to help people connect with their neighbors. It happens on the first Tuesday in August (August 2nd, 2011) and features locally planned venues designed to get people out of their homes and interacting with their neighbors. We had a very successful event in 2009, but unfortunately the neighborhood group who sponsored it decided not to participate in 2010. So, we would like to step up and fill the void. But, to do so requires a coordinator. The coordinator will decide what we want to offer and get volunteers to make it happen. Please see Pastor Stephen for more information or to volunteer.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son,
so that everyone who believes in him may not perish
but may have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
Blessings,
Pastor Stephen
