The “Big Cross” Has Been Repainted

A Big Thanks to everyone who contributed

to have the Big Cross repainted.

The work is complete and the Cross is ready for our

Easter Sunrise Service

on April 20th.

 

Church Wide Clean-Up Day

The Trustees have designated

APRIL 5, 2014

as our Spring Cleanup Day

 

The major items will include

Seeding the area in front of the main church door

Painting the light poles in the parking lot

Cleaning up leaves and branches

Planting flowers in the boxes in the parking lot

 

Lunch Will Be Provided

Lenten Learning Series

Church 101 - A Lenten Learning Series

Providence-Fort Washington United Methodist Church

March 9, 16, 23, 30, April 13 - Sundays @ 2:00-3:30 pm

 

This year the Lenten Learning Series will look at some of the foundations

that guide our lives at disciples of Jesus Christ.

Each session will be 90 minutes

with about 1 hour devoted to the actual presentation

and 30 minutes given for questions and answers.

 

March 23 – Monotheism 101

March 30 – The United Methodist Church 101

April 6 – (no class – Pastor Stephen away)

April 13 – Providence-Fort Washington 101

 

New Member Class Forming

I will be offering a New Member Class on

March 23 for everyone interested in joining

Providence-Fort Washington.

The class will meet from 9:30-10:30 in the Parlor.

New members will be received during worship on March 30th.

Church Cemetery Project

As part of our cemetery maintenance project

we want to mark all the graves with stones.

BUT, we need your help identifying unmarked graves.

Contact Ray Luby if

you know anything about who is buried in our cemeteries

or where their graves are located.

(This includes the cemetery in Chapel Hill)

Rocking Readers - UPDATE

It is never too late to become a Rocking Reader.

Please see Ann for information on how you can make a difference

in a child’s life by becoming a Rocking Reader!!

 

Wednesday Bible Study

During Lent, the Wednesday Bible Study will meet

TUESDAYS at 6:00 pm

We are studying EXODUS and new members are always welcome!

See Pastor Stephen for more information.

The group meets at 6:00 pm for a potluck dinner.

The Bible Study begins at 6:30 pm and ends at 8:30 pm.

 

Toiletries for Urban Ministry

We are continuing to collect toiletries for Urban Ministry

Please bring items and place them in the

basket in the narthex.

To fill a toiletry bag, put the following items in a 1 gallon ziplock bag:

 

1 small jar of Vaseline

1 bar of soap

1 deodorant

1 package of wipes

1 wash cloth

2014 Worship Attendance Goal

Our Worship Attendance Goal for 2014 is 90.

Our average worship attendance for 2014 is 78.82

Our worship attendance on March 16th was 72

 

Altar Flowers

Please sign-up to supply altar flowers.

Flowers can be used to mark any significant occasion

including birthdays, anniversaries, and memorials.

Altar flowers are $22.00 per vase and

payment is due when you request flowers.

 

Urban Ministry Update

The Urban Ministry Group is now leading Worship Services

on the Third Sunday of every month at

House of Peace

meeting at 3rd Street Church of God in Washington, D.C.

As part of our ministry, we provide lunch and

offer hats, gloves, and coats for those in need.

We are accepting cash donations to offset the cost of this ministry.

Contact Pastor Stephen or Mi Ja for more details.

The Group will meet on Saturday, April 19th at 9:30 am

to plan and prepare for our next trip into D.C. on April 20th

 

Giant Food Cash For Causes

Providence-Fort Washington has enrolled in the

Giant Food Cash For Causes Program

 

This program allows us to purchase

Giant Gift Cards at a 5% discount and then resell them for face value.

The 5% difference is then put in our General Operating Fund.

The difference between our cost and your purchase price

is also credited on your annual giving statement.

 

Pastor Stephen has some cards available for purchase

and you can order cards to be delivered next week.

The cards have no expiration date and can be used for anything Giant sells.

Collection of Stamps and Labels

Information update:

I have just sent a batch of canceled stamps

to Stamps for the Wounded program and also box and can labels

(bar codes) to the Board of Child Care Auxiliary.  Thank you for

your donations, and please continue to save these two items.

Aluminum Can Recycling

We are collecting and recycling aluminum cans.

Please bring your aluminum cans in

and we will sell them to the recycling center.
