Typhoon Haiyan Update

As you are aware, typhoon Haiyan devastated parts of the Philippines.

We are asking for donations to help the survivors.

Donations marked “typhoon” or “Philippines” will go

directly to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR)

where 100% of the money is used for relief efforts.

You can also give online at www.umcor.org.

Rocking Readers - UPDATE

The Rocking Readers are in the school and reading to children!

 

Our first Rocking Readers were at

Fort Washington Forest Elementary School

to read to students this week.

Currently five people have gone through the process

to get into the school and read to children.

As of last Friday, we have read to nine children.

 

It is never too late to become a Rocking Reader.

Please see Ann for information on how you can make a difference

in a child’s life by becoming a Rocking Reader!!.

 

Thanksgiving Dinner

As in previous years, the Ricketts family

invites you to share Thanksgiving Dinner with us.

We will gather in the church fellowship hall on

Thursday, November 28th at 2:00 pm

for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner.

All are welcome.

Please sign up so we know how many are coming.

Plan to bring a side dish to share.

 

Mitten Tree

The United Methodist Women so much appreciate donations

of cold weather items such as hats, scarves, gloves, mittens, etc.

to the mitten tree located in the narthex. 

The donated items will be sent to the

Red Bird Mission of the United Methodist Church in Kentucky. 

The mitten tree will be up until December 15.

 

White House Ornaments

The UMW still has some ornaments available for purchase.

Please see Judy Cassidy at church or call her at her home

to arrange for purchase.  The cost is $17.00 per ornament.

 

Annual Christmas Banquet

Our elegant, festive banquet, beautifully catered by Milloff's,

will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2013 at 12:30 p.m.

Tickets do sell quickly for this popular event,

so please see Judy or Donna to purchase tickets

Tickets prices are:

Adult $22.00, Children 6-12 $10.00, Age 5 and Under: Free.

 

Wednesday Bible Study

We are nearing the end of our Genesis Study

A NEW study will begin on January 8th.

The Group meets at 6:00 pm for a potluck dinner.

The Bible Study begins at 6:30 pm and ends at 8:30 pm.

 

Toiletries for Urban Ministry

We are continuing to collect toiletries for Urban Ministry

Please bring item and place them in the

basket in the narthex.

We will soon be collecting warm clothing and coats

for Urban Ministry.

2013 Worship Attendance Goal

Our Worship Attendance Goal for 2013 is 92.

Our attendance on November 17th was 79

Our average worship attendance through October 27th is 79.54.

 

Altar Flowers

Please sign-up to supply altar flowers.

Flowers can be used to mark any significant occasion

including birthdays, anniversaries, and memorials.

Altar flowers are $22.00 per vase and

payment is due when you request flowers.

 

Urban Ministry Update

The Urban Ministry Group is now leading Worship Services

on the Third Sunday of every month at

House of Peace

meeting at 3rd Street Church of God in Washington, D.C.

As part of our ministry, we provide lunch and

offer hats, gloves, and coats for those in need.

We are accepting cash donations to offset the cost of this ministry.

Contact Pastor Stephen or Mi Ja for more details.

The Group will meet on Saturday, December 14th at 9:30 am

to plan and prepare for our next trip into D.C. on December 15th.

 

Giant Food Cash For Causes

Providence-Fort Washington has enrolled in the

Giant Food Cash For Causes Program

 

This program allows us to purchase

Giant Gift Cards at a 5% discount and then resell them for face value.

The 5% difference is then put in our General Operating Fund.

The difference between our cost and your purchase price

is also credited on your annual giving statement.

 

Pastor Stephen has some cards available for purchase

and you can order cards to be delivered next week.

The cards have no expiration date and can be used for anything Giant sells.

Collection of Stamps and Labels

Information update:

I have just sent a batch of canceled stamps

to Stamps for the Wounded program and also box and can labels

(bar codes) to the Board of Child Care Auxiliary.  Thank you for

your donations, and please continue to save these two items.

Aluminum Can Recycling

We are collecting and recycling aluminum cans.

Please bring your aluminum cans in

and we will sell them to the recycling center.
