Weekly Meditation
So far the winter weather has been relatively kind to us. We have not lost any Sundays to bad weather, and the snow held off so we could celebrate Christ’s birth on Christmas Eve. But, I know that will not continue; sooner or later, we will have our share of bad weather.

I must confess that I am not very patient with snow and ice. I can be very frustrated when bad weather forces me to cancel an event or miss worship on Sunday. Recently, I have been attempting to replace my impatience with gratitude. I have been trying to thank God for the snow and the ice. Snow and ice can transform a barren landscape into a winter wonderland and help us see God’s hand at work beautifying the world.

I am also trying to be thankful for the “forced” day off. Modern life runs at a frenetic pace and bad weather can force us to slow down and let the world go on without us.

So, when bad weather forces us to stay indoors for longer that we might want, I encourage you to thank God for the beauty of winter. Thank God for our homes that protect us from the elements. And, thank God for the extra Sabbath rest.
